Make Sure Hourly School Workers Get Paid
Our country is facing an unprecedented pandemic in the coronavirus.
This is uncharted territory and the situation is changing rapidly. Our educators are quickly responding to the need to shift lessons to distance learning for all students, delivering food and providing child care for emergency personnel. And we need to make sure our education support professionals and other hourly employees get paid while Minnesota schools are closed to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
So far, many districts are doing the right thing. But that may change if this crisis drags on.
Legislation has been introduced that would require districts to pay hourly school workers during closures related to COVID-19. We need your help to get the bill passed so Gov. Tim Walz can sign it into law.
We believe all hourly workers should be supported during this crisis, and this bill would mean economic security for thousands of school workers like bus drivers, long-term substitutes, paraprofessionals, food service workers and more.
