Election Committee Campaign Guidelines Reminder :
The
Federal Landrum-Griffin Act (1959) governs union election campaign activity
and strictly prohibits the use of moneys from a labor organization or an
employer "to be contributed or applied to promote the candidacy of any
person" directly or indirectly.
The Election Committee has reviewed these rules and sought legal
interpretations and reminds everybody to be mindful of the following
rules:
o
Use of employer email for individual campaigning is prohibited
o
Do not initiate or forward emails that contain opinions or
recommendations
o
Use of duty time paid for by the union or employer is prohibited
o
Use of union/employer equipment such as computers, telephones, fax
machines, and copy machines is prohibited
o
Use of union/employer supplies such as stamps, paper, and
envelopes, or letterhead is prohibited
o
Use of employer facilities/resources for individual campaigning
(unless specifically sanctioned) is prohibited
o
Candidates are allowed to campaign/distribute literature on
city-owned sidewalks and boulevards adjacent to school district property
and union property only
o
Wearing Buttons on premises, because of risks inviting campaigning
and/or use of duty time, is prohibited
o
Printing articles which support or criticize an individual's
candidacy in a union newspaper or other publication
o
Giving free services, special discounts to a candidate customer
such as printing, photocopying, etc. is prohibited
